There are near Shakespearean-level themes for us to enjoy in PS: II. It is not the spectacle that scores here, but rather the storytelling. That said, Ravi Varman uses color and light so well that even otherwise ordinary moments pop with extravagance.

Mani Ratnam finally takes some creative liberty and it works. Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2 will have polarizing views. While the fans of the book might be disappointed with some major deviations from the book, the ace director understands the form won't let him be entirely faithful to the novel.
